At The Healing Calabash, herbalism is practiced as a relationship — between people and plants, body and land, memory and care.
This work is rooted in the understanding that plants are not shortcuts or cures to be consumed on demand. They are allies that support the body’s natural processes when approached with respect, patience, and discernment. Herbal medicine here is slow, intentional, and responsive to the whole person.
My herbalism practice centers Black women who are ready to engage plant medicine as part of a broader healing process that includes nourishment, lifestyle shifts, and self-awareness.
A Relational Approach to Plant Medicine
Herbalism at The Healing Calabash is:
Whole-person oriented, considering physical, emotional, and energetic factors
Clinical, focusing on personalized care for specific health concerns, integrating traditional knowledge with modern science (like anatomy/physiology)
Culturally grounded, honoring ancestral and traditional plant knowledge
Safety-centered, with careful attention to interactions, dosage, and readiness
Integrated, often paired with nutrition, ritual, and coaching support
Rather than offering generic blends or trends, herbal recommendations are made with care — informed by your constitution, history, and current season of life.
What Herbal Support May Include
Depending on your needs, herbal work may support:
Stress regulation and nervous system support
Digestive health and elimination
Hormonal balance and womb-centered care
Immune support and seasonal transitions
Rest, sleep, and energy restoration
Herbs may be offered as teas, tinctures, infusions, or supportive daily practices, always with clear guidance and education.
What Working With Me Looks Like
Herbal support typically begins with a Herbalism & Nutrition Intake Consultation, where we take time to understand your health history, medications, lifestyle patterns, and goals.
From there, herbal recommendations may include:
Personalized plant allies selected for your specific needs
Education on preparation, timing, and consistency
Adjustments over time as your body responds
This is not a one-time transaction. Herbalism works best when there is space for observation, feedback, and refinement.
Who This Work Is For
This herbalism practice is for Black women who:
Are curious about plant medicine and ready to learn responsibly
Value depth, relationship, and continuity over quick remedies
Are willing to observe their body and communicate changes
Understand that herbs support — they do not replace — the body’s wisdom
No prior knowledge of herbalism is required, only openness and care.
Who This Work Is Not For
This practice may not be a good fit if you are:
Seeking instant results or “miracle cures”
Unwilling to disclose medications or health history
Looking for self-diagnosis or unsupervised protocols
In need of emergency or acute medical care
Clear boundaries help ensure herbal medicine is used ethically and safely.
Scope of Practice & Safety
Herbalism at The Healing Calabash is practiced within the scope of clinical herbalism, a traditional and contemporary discipline focused on supporting the body’s natural capacity for balance and resilience through the informed use of plants, food, and lifestyle practices.
This work is educational, supportive, and collaborative. It is designed to complement, not replace, medical care.
Your autonomy, consent, and safety are always centered.
