The Healing Calabash exists to support the holistic well-being of Black women - mind, body, and spirit.
Hello!True healing comes from within, but sometimes we need experiences, guidance, and community to help bring it forward.
That’s what The Healing Calabash is all about. It’s a container to support your healing journey by meeting you right where you are and reflecting back to you your own wisdom, brilliance, and ability to transform yourself.
I am not here to heal you - only you can heal you. I am here to facilitate the process of helping you uncover your own light.
I know the journey to healing and finding yourself is not always (how about never!) smooth or easy.
I created The Healing Calabash because I needed (and still need!) a safe space to heal and grow. My journey began in my early 20s when I was questioning my Christian faith as a Black woman, and trying to figure out where I fit in a world that seemed intent to crushing me just because of the way I was born - Black and woman. I was struggling to not only connect to a spiritual path that felt more aligned to who I was, but I was also actively questioning and discovering who I was apart from who I was told I needed to be…and I have since discovered that this a lifelong journey!
After re-connecting back to the spiritual practices of my ancestors and deepening my own studies in a variety of healing modalities for my own well-being, I felt compelled to create a space and platform to share them with other Black women who are on a similar path of re-connection, healing, and transformation.

Hi! My name is Darasia Selby and I am holistic wellness practitioner based in Philadelphia. For almost 20 years, I have provided spiritual guidance and coaching to a variety of people through various mediums. When I am not reading astrology charts, blending herbal teas, conducting divination sessions, or providing spiritual support in community and movement spaces, I am usually trying a new recipe, exploring a new restaurant, or just kicking back with a good book.
Since I have started on my healing journey, I have picked up some amazing experiences and credentials along the way. Here are a few:
Undergraduate and graduate studies in African-American Studies and Religion (Temple University, Philadelphia, PA)
Post-bacc and graduate studies in Nutrition and Clinical Herbalism (Maryland University for Integrative Health, now Notre Dame of Maryland University, Laurel/Baltimore, MD)
Certifications in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching (Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, Tempe, AZ)
Reconnection with Hoodoo tradition through family and community elders
Initiation into the Afro-Cuban Lukumi Tradition (2009, Philadelphia, PA) and the West African Orisa Tradition (2012, 2014, Ibadan, Oyo, Nigeria)
My Values
1) Love. Love of Black women, love of Black people, love of Black community.
2) Authenticity. Real recognizes real…and we can’t fake the funk with spirit.
3) Reciprocity + Care. Reciprocity and care in relationships, in community, with the land, and with spirit.
